comparison of bone mineral density measured by dual x-ray, axial dual-energy photon x-ray absorptiometry and laser absorptiometry of calcaneus
Authors
abstract
the objective of this study was to validate the use of bone mineral measurements of the calcaneus bone by dual x-ray and laser (dxl) in a cross-sectional study carried out in an osteoporosis clinic. measurements of bone mineral density (bmd) at proximal femur and spine were obtained by dual-energy photon x-ray absorptiometry (dexa). osteoporosis was defined by a dexa t-score <-2.5 at the femoral neck or lumbar spine. sensitivity, specificity and kappa statistics for dxl were calculated, assuming the dexa measurement as the gold-standard. the study included 475 women with a mean age of 54±11.9 years. 15% had osteoporosis while 39% were osteopenic (-2.5

full textComparison of Singh index accuracy and dual energy X-ray absorptiometry bone mineral density measurement for evaluating osteoporosis
Background: The Singh index is an inexpensive simple method to evaluate bone density, commonly used to assess osteoporosis is based on the radiological appearance of the trabecular bone structure of the proximal femur on a plain antero-posterior (AP) radiograph. The purpose of this study was to compare between Singh index and bone mineral density measurement using dual energy X-ray abs...
full textDual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry: Beyond Bone Mineral Density Determination
Significant improvements in dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) concerning quality, image resolution and image acquisition time have allowed the development of various functions. DXA can evaluate bone quality by indirect analysis of micro- and macro-architecture of the bone, which and improve the prediction of fracture risk. DXA can also detect existing fractures, such as vertebral fractures...
full textAssessment of bone mineral density with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in pre- and post-menopausal women
Background: Osteoporosis is a chronic disease that contributes substantially to decrease physical activity and decline in the quality of life. Osteoporosis can be diagnosed easily with the use of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) equipment. The aim of this study was to investigate the magnitude of bone loss on proximal femur and lumbar spine LS in pre- and post-menopausal women f...

full textBone mineral measurement of phalanges: comparison of radiographic absorptiometry and area dual X-ray absorptiometry.
With a standard, image-intensifier-based, digital radiographic system, high-spatial-resolution images of the hand were acquired for analysis of phalangeal bone mineral density with dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Results with phalangeal DXA had precision of plus or minus 0.67% and accuracy of 4.1% and correlated well with those with radiographic absorptiometry. This phalangeal DXA technique is...
